DA provides relief assistance to  fire victims

SEPPA, Feb 3: East Kameng Deputy Commissioner Tope Bam has sanctioned and released Rs. 2,700 each to every victim family of January 31 inferno of Jote Cheda village under Pipu circle of East Kameng. The fire burnt down 20 dwelling houses and three granaries and rendered 35 families homeless. The released amounts were immediately distributed among the victims along with blankets.

The fire reportedly started from a house when minors aged about 5-6 years were setting fire to bake wild potato (pacha). No valuable materials could be taken out as all the villagers were away in the field for work.

Fortunately, there was no loss of life. The spot verification and assessment of properties/lost damaged in the fire incident was conducted by Pipu CO.

An inferno that broke out on 31st January’ 13 in around 2 pm at Jote Cheda Village under Pipu circle, East Kameng District has completely burnt  down traditionally built 20 long dwelling houses where 35 families sheltered together in many compartments with separate hearths and 3 granaries into ashes.

After receiving the victim’s list, the learned Deputy Commissioner, East Kameng District, Tope Bam without delaying a second has sanctioned and released the immediate relief amounting to Rs. 2,700 each to every effected family through DDMO, East Kameng District.

 

Aalo Youth Festival 2013 concludes

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The Aalo Youth Festival 2013, which was started on January 30 with a marathon race, concluded with completion of Inter School Literary meet at Higher Secondary School on February one.

The literary meet was participated by 235 students from 27 secondary and higher secondary schools of West Siang district.

The drawing competition drew attraction of all and drawings would be exhibited during prize distribution ceremony to be held at Mopin Dere Ground on February nine. Other attraction of the function will be rock show, HIV/AIDS awareness campaign and performance by TV reality show competitors.

The results of various events will be declared on February 7 through local cable TV and news dailies.

 

Provide compensation to Ozakho fire victims: WSU

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: While welcoming the personal contribution of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to the victims of Ozakho fire accidents during his visit to Launa last month, the Wancho Students’ Union has appealed to the state government to provide ‘meaningful’ compensation to the victims.

“It is almost three months now since the disaster struck Ozakho in Longding district when atleast 18 houses were burnt to ashes due to massive firefights between the two factions of NSCN within the village area. But, the state government has not yet provided any compensation to the villagers excepting for contribution of few bags of rice and blankets from the district administration,” the students; union alleged in a release and urged the government to show atleast same degree of urgency in providing compensation as shown to other victims elsewhere in the state.

The state cannot afford to neglect the victims of insurgency and the collateral damages inflicted by non-state actors, or else this would go down in the history as a sign of abject surrender of the state leaving the people at the mercy of the non-state players, the release said.  

The students’ union urged the government to not only provide adequate compensation but also initiate concrete and meaningful measures to stop recurrence of such incident anywhere in the state in future.

 

Livestock treatment camp held

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Sikang Ane Multipurpose Welfare Society, Lower Dibang Valley conducted three days free livestock treatment camp at Bizari, Anoum, Loklung, Kaling, Keba, Banggo and Paglam villages recently.

During the camp medicine were distributed free of cost to 650 beneficiaries by the society.

SDO Dambuk Atul Tayeng, BDO Eving Yirang, DCVO incharge Dr K Phukan, ASM chairperson Tukpik Saring and other officials also attended the camp besides GBs and PRI members.

On the occasion General Secretary of the society Daniel Perying advised the farmers to keep their livestock healthy and also urged the villagers to maintain peaceful atmosphere in their respective village for its development.

 

Org, PR leader rubbish allegations

ITANAGAR, Feb 03: All Damin Area Youth Organization and Zilla Parishad Member of Damin today condemned the allegation of fund embezzlement leveled against the Damin BDO by Damin Area Peoples Forum as baseless and fabricated. In a release the organization claimed that allegation was leveled against  the BDO by some vested interests to gain political benefit and to disturb peaceful atmosphere. ZPM  in a separate release said that  the allegation  leveled against ‘genuine, sincere and dedicated local officer’  was politically motivated.

 

Students’ excursion trip conducted

ITANAGAR, Feb 03: The students’ excursion trip within state for students of class-IX and X under RMSA scheme for the session 2012-13, Papum Pare district was conducted yesterday.

Flagging off the excursion trip at Govt. Sec. School, RGU Campus, Papum Pare DDSE cum District Mission Officer, APRMSA TT Tara encouraged the students to participate in such exposure trip which is also a part of education. Explaining the usefulness of such exposure trip for students, the DDSE said that all students will get the same opportunity in the coming days. He advised the students to be sincere and study hard work to become good citizen.

The students were taken to RGU, NERIST, Itafort, Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing Impaired and Biological Park (Zoo).

The excursion trip was organized by District Mission Authority, APRMSA, Papum Pare District, Yupia and team was guided/escorted by G Tatang, DPC, RMSA, G. Tachang, Coord-Plg, RMSA, T. Gadi, APO, Dr. A.K Mishra, Coord-Plg (SSA) and teachers from concern schools.

 

APCTA mourns

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The members of Arunachal Pradesh College Teachers Association (APCTA) has mourned the sad demise of Joram Mimpu (Apu), mother of Joram Muthu,  Assistant professor in department of Botany, Dera Natung Govt College, Itanagar. She died  after prolonged illness on February 2 evening.

 

ASF vows to fight for student community

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: In its meeting cum interaction programme held here on Saturday, Arunachal Students Federation (ASF) vowed to fight for the basic needs of the students’ community and to maintain communal harmony among the tribes.

Drive against tinted car windows continues

ITANAGAR, Feb 03: Continuing its drive against dark tinted films on car windows/front and rear glasses, the district administration with help of police and PPPF today removed such tinted films from hundreds of cars.

Similarly, penalties were imposed on those riding two wheelers without wearing helmet and driving license etc. A sizable amount was realized as fine and penalty from the violators of traffic rules. A mobile court was also setup on the spot and orders regarding penalty/ punishment were pronounced there, informed Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goel.

The drive is being carried out to ensure safety of life of motorcycle riders, who are frequently found riding bikes without helmet and driving license thus putting their own life in danger. The removal of black/ tinted film from car windows and screens would be an instrumental factor in preventing antisocial activities by nefarious elements.

The red lights fixed unauthorizedly on top front of some vehicles were also removed and seized. At the same time, the vendors sitting on NH52A within ‘RoW’ wherein eviction was carried out few months back were again removed and their merchandise seized for levying penalties. The passenger transport vehicles like Tata Sumo, Trackers, Auto-rickshaws etc., parked illegally on NH52A at Naharlagun were removed and penalized. To check crime and anti-social activities, the district administration has also started night patrolling from February one and those found drinking in public, wine-shops not adhering to the time schedule and other suspicious elements during the patrolling will be dealt with sternly, the release said.

The night patrolling is started to instill confidence amongst citizens and improve law and order situation. The DA appealed to the residents of capital complex to abide by the guidelines as issued by the Courts and State Government to avoid penalties.

The District Administration would continue such unannounced drives in the coming days.

 

 

Dedicated services of some determined souls go unnoticed

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: On a sunny winter Sunday morning, when most people prefer to stay indoors, two gentlemen along with group of dedicated police personnel were out in the middle of road for a ‘mission’. The gentlemen I am talking about are capital deputy commissioner Sanjay Goel and additional district magistrate Talo Potom.  They were carrying out drive at Naharlagun town to remove black tinted films from various cars and also taking action against bikers who were riding without helmets and proper documents.

I took a seat besides two gentlemen and was closely watching the procedure. I must say people of Arunachal is full of egos and is hardly cooperative when administration takes some step to ensure safety of citizens.

“This vehicle belongs to a chairman,” the pat come reply when a vehicle was intercepted by police. Well, I don’t want to embarrass by naming the chairman and I am sure the person must have got the lesson. A young (under-age) biker was caught for driving without license and documents. Instead of being accepting his mistake, the boy was giving all sorts of excuses and trying to flee the scene.

DC Sanjay Goel told that even its tough to carry out such kind of drive, the administration is trying its best. “We are doing it for the benefit of citizen. But some people get offended when we stop their vehicles and unnecessarily it creates bad feeling. The citizen need to understand that this whole drive is being done to make capital a better place to live in and they need to support us. Without the support and cooperation of citizens we will never get success in our endevour,” said DC Goel. He further informed that during the drive they have removed black film even from vehicles belonging to parliamentary secretaries, MLAs, deputy commissioners and secretaries.

The capital administration has also launched night patrolling from evening 6 PM to till 12 am midnight in various parts of capital. The patrolling, which started on 1st February, begins to bear some fruits. A team led by ADM Talo Potom has managed to arrest various drug addicts and petty criminals who create nuisance during night time. The team also raided an Itanagar based popular bar and sealed it for remaining open way beyond its stipulated time.  

In a state like Arunachal where government officers behave like born- king and where every third person is chairman, vice-chairman, president, general secretary of various XYZ departments and associations and unions, it seriously must be tough job for capital administration to carry out such kind of drive which might hurt the egos of these self-proclaimed VIPs. Though it’s early days, however, one has to acknowledge some of the honest work done by present team of capital administration in a hostile atmosphere.

With due respect to all the state award winners announced on the occasion of Republic Day, I wonder whether state government missed an opportunity to boast morale of these officers by ignoring them for this year’s state award. Government also failed to recognize contribution of persons like journalist Tongam Rina and social worker Tailyang Shanti who are selflessly contributing for the development of state. These people also deserves state award as much others.

 

 

NES Silver Jubilee celebrated at Sagalee

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: The fourth phase of the Nyishi Elite Society Silver Jubilee Celebration Cum Educational Tour programme with theme “Nurturing Youth Energy and Harnessing Women Folk” was held at Sagalee yesterday.

Addressing a huge gathering on the occasion, NES president Bengia Tolum highlighted the circumstance that has compelled to form various prominent organizations in Nyishi community. The Nyishi unity movement started in 1979 at Seppa followed by Ligu Affirmation on 19th December 1998 and change of nomenclature from Dafla to Nyishi in 2008 are some of the major achievements of Nyishi Elite Society, Tolum informed.

While expressing his displeasure over present trend of easy and shortcut methods for earning money by adopting different tactics, which is dangerous for the community, Tolum appealed youths to change their mind set and utilize their energy in positive direction. He cautioned the youth to stop bandh culture immediately as it not only affects the business community but also paralyzes normal life of common men. He advised such bandh proposers/enforcers to adopt other democratic means of protest instead of calling bandh or else “we will openly protest against bandh culture by involving the masses,” cautioned the NES president.

The first and foremost duty of student is their study, he said and advised the student to devote in their study only instead of involving themselves in union and association activities. He also appealed to the parents and guardians to guide their children properly since they are the future of our society and nation as well. Speaking on the occasion, local MLA cum Chief Minister Nabam Tuki opined that Nyishi being the largest community of the state should play the role of big brother for the betterment of the state. He also highlighted the different programmes and policies of the state Government and informed about BPL Health Insurance and Chief Minister Talent Search Schemes.

Member of Parliament Takam Sanjay gave a clarion call for maintaining the spirit of brotherhood, mutual trust and confidence amongst the different tribes of state for speedy progress and prosperity of the state.

Women have to play an important role in caring, nurturing and educating our own child so that they become worthy citizens of the community, said Higio Aruni, NES Secretary Women Welfare.

All Nyishi Students’ Union general secretary Arjun Panye, All Nyishi Youth Association president  Bamang Taji also dwelt in role of youth in making  vibrant and strong community.

Earlier, Dr. Kartik Nishing was felicitated on his promotion to Director Health Services. Kara Kakap, expert in handicraft making was also felicitated on the occasion.

Condolences continue to pour in for Riba

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Various organizations of the state including a political party have expressed deep shock over the demise of former IAS officer Jikom Riba after brief illness in a city hospital on Friday evening. Riba had retired from government service in 1994. He was 77 and is survived by wife, four sons and a daughter.

While condoling the sudden demise of Jikom Riba, former Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin said “it is necessary that we acknowledge his contributions to the foundation of our state. He was one of the torch bearers of the administration and developmental endevours of Arunachal Pradesh. With his death we have lost a valued member of our society.” This is a loss which can never be fulfilled, Gamlin added.

Late Riba was a distinguished administrator and a committed officer. He had immensely contributed towards nation building in various capacities. His dedicated service will surely inspire the young officers  in shaping the state and society in right directions, said BJP in a condolence message. The sad demise of Riba is an irreparable loss to the people of state. His death will certainly create a void in Arunachalee society which would be difficult to fill, BJP said.

Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy in his condolence message termed Jikom Riba a role model for the ethnic-rich tribal state of Arunachal, whose life will always inspire the upcoming generations to follow his ideals.

He was a very straight forward and amiable personality but committed to social causes.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace and lead kindly light for the Arunachalees for a better tomorrow,” Sanjoy added.

“It is a tragic loss for our entire generation that Jikom Riba is no  more with us. Apart from being an upright officer he was a great humanist with his actions. His words were always poised with social values,” said former MP Kiren Rijiju in a message.  The  people will always remember his contributions towards social reforms and cultural advancement, Rijiju said.

The sudden demise of late Jikom Riba has deeply saddened the Galo Welfare Society. Recalling the contributions of late Riba, the GWS  said that the Galo community has lost one of its torch bearers and a senior member of the community in his death. The executive members of the GWS, senior members and well wishers observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to departed soul yesterday.

Galo Students Union also expressed deep shock at the sudden demise of Jikom Riba. Though he is no more with us but his immense contributions will always inspire the young generation to  work for the society and the nation, the GSU said in a condolence message.  

Central Nyedar Namlo (CNN) and Nyedar Namlo Doimukh committee jointly conducted condolence and prayer meeting for peace and heavenly abode of the late Jikom Riba.

Speaking on the occasion Nabam Atum, former Public Service Commission Chairman threw light upon the glorious life of Riba. “His role in the state since the time of NEFA to the last part of his career as an officer had been to preserve the cultural heritage of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and he had also continued the same after his retirement as a social leader,” said Atum. He was one of the torch bearers who shown us right path.  He was instrumental in formation of Indigenous Faith and Culture. People of Arunachal can never forget the contributions of late Riba. The members present in the prayer meeting observed two minutes silence and prayed the almighty “Aane Donyi” to give strength to the bereaved family members to overcome the situation.

Bogum Ao Foundation and Kargu Kamgi Management Committee Itanagar today expressed deep shock over sudden demise of Jikom Riba an IAS officer who died after brief illness at Naharlagun on Friday last.  Late Riba was honest and hardworking officer who promoted brotherhood among the tribes, the Foundation said.  The death of Riba has created a vacuum in our society that will never be filled, the Committee said in a separate release.

 

 

Evict encroachers of school land: AAPSU

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has demanded the authority concerned to immediately evict the encroachers of Basar Nalo Middle School land.

A team of AAPSU led by its president Kamta Lapung visited the school yesterday and discussed the land encroachment issue with School management committee chairman, teaching staff, gaon bura and public of the village. The team was informed that there had been no any proper demarcation of the school land which was established in 1974. Taking serious note of the situation, AAPSU demanded the authority concerned to evict the encroachers or else it would launch democratic movement.

The new AAPSU team also reiterated its commitment to initiate some positive steps for the betterment of students’ community and general public as well.

 

 

Tourism will mitigate dependence on politicians: Phurpa

DIRANG, Feb 3: “Emphasis on tourism industry not only in West Kameng and Tawang but in whole of Arunachal Pradesh would generate self-employment and income to educated unemployed youths and mitigate their financial dependence on their leaders”, said Parliamentary Secretary Science and Technology Phurpa Tsering during his week-long official tour at his constituency here today.

Accompanied by Heads of Departments from Bomdila, Dirang, panchayat and senior public leaders of his home constituency, Phurpa announced financial packages for construction of ‘Tourist Lodges’ at Zimthung and Salari villages. ‘God has bestowed West Kameng and Tawang in particular with tremendous natural beauty which attracts largest inflow of tourist both-domestic and international annually to this belt. Apart from horticulture, our educated unemployed youths should capitalize on this asset and take up tourism related activities for their self-sustenance,’ he expressed.

While reviewing various ongoing developmental schemes and programs at Darbu, Rahung, Zimthung, Namthung, Munna Camp, Panchavati, Chander, Salari, Pangma, Khalibok, Barchipam, Sagar Krong, Dirang Basti and Lish Gonpache villages, he also announced several developmental packages from his MLALAD, MSDP and BADP funds which included repair of Rahung power-house, water connectivity at Salari village, approach roads to Gonpas at several villages, repair of dilapidated school buildings, boundary walls and posting of requisite teachers in schools.

While supporting the views of Parliamentary Secretary on keeping tourism as a thrust area, Dirang Additional Deputy Commissioner D Riba particularly emphasized on renovation and upkeep of famed tourist attraction ‘Hot Water-Spring’ and said: “Let us be courteous to tourists both-domestic and foreign as they are guests in our area and enhance our economy’. Advocating more attention in the field of education and harmonious peaceful co-existence cutting across political differences, Riba sought cooperation of public and also assured smooth administration from Dirang General Administration.

 

 

Two accused in dacoity case arrested

ITANAGAR, Feb 3: In a yet another major breakthrough, Capital Police under the supervision of City SP apprehended two accused in Naharlagun Police Station Case no 125/12 U/s 395 IPC R/w Section 25 Arms Act.

The police team comprising OC PS Itanagar Inspector Make Bui, IO, SI M Geyi, SI Techi Nega, Head Constable M Kamgo and Constable S Gupta after receiving a tip off trapped and arrested the absconding accused duo Gamke Veo and Raju Gurung from Itanagar on January 30. Police also seized three.32 pistols, 5 Magzines, 54 live rounds (.32), two motorcycles, two mobile handsets along with 4 SIM cards and few amounts from their possession.

Earlier on September, 2, 2012, five unknown persons committed dacoity at a wholesale shop at A-sector Naharlagun and looted cash amount of about seven lakhs at gunpoint.

On receipt of an FIR, a case was registered at Naharlagun Police station (NLG PS Case no 125/12 U/s 395 IPC R/w Section 25 Arms Act) and Police swung into action and arrested three accused namely, K T Ramniu, Dana Tanang, A K Singh from Polo Colony Naharlagun on the same day. But two other accused Gamke Veo and Raju @ Rajiv Gurung had managed to escape with looted booties.

Green jobs

Panelists at the session on 'Employment and Growth Benefits of a Green Economy' at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) came up with positive stories of optimism that left the audience toying with ideas.

With evidence of the complementarity of the growth potential of green economic policies, many in the audience, that comprised mostly Indians, realized that many initiatives happening right under their nose had earlier never been viewed as green employment.

Not at least, till the moment Lise Grande, the UN Resident Coordinator in India, cited four instances of energy efficiency coupling with job creation, establishing how green economy is a more efficient way to economic growth, social equity and environment prevention.

The UN official cited interesting instances of how entrepreneurs, whether in the tea or small steel re-rolling industry were harnessing technology, and saving energy and money. Not only that they were growing and generating more employment.

Similarly, biomass producers were getting better  information to time the sale of their resources. She also cited the example of how the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme's efforts at controlling soil erosion and harvesting water were upping agricultural productivity and regenerating environmental assets - all this while producing employment.

"Green growth is adding to the GDP and the Chinese earned $ 60 billion from green business.

As Danish journalist, Mik Aidt from the Danish Centre for Arts and Inter-culture said, the driving factor for industries is the jobs it will create.

The hidden word in the statement was equity-countries with experience in this area remain the drivers of knowledge and information on the employment and growth benefits of a green economy.
